Rubén Moreira proposes special commission to investigate deputy murders

Rubén Moreira Valdez, the PRI parliamentary coordinator in the Chamber of Deputies, has formally requested the creation of a Special Commission through the Political Coordination Board (Jucopo). The proposal aims to provide institutional oversight for investigations into the murders of elected deputies Melesio Cuén Ojeda, Benito Aguas Atlahua, and Zenyazen Escobar García.

Moreira stated that violence against elected representatives threatens democracy and free citizen representation. The proposed commission would monitor investigations, review the actions of responsible authorities, assist in clarifying the facts, and develop legislative proposals to prevent future attacks and strengthen protections for elected officials. Moreira has approached Jucopo President Ricardo Monreal Ávila to build the necessary consensus to bring the proposal before the Plenary.
