Rubén Rocha Moya: Former DEA chief calls for arrest and extradition

Derek Maltz, the former interim director of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), has called on Mexico’s Secretary of Security and Protection Citizen, Omar García Harfuch, to arrest and extradite Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya to the United States.

Maltz’s demand follows Rocha Moya’s return to office after a 112-day leave of absence. The governor had previously stepped away to testify before Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office regarding allegations of links between his administration and the Sinaloa Cartel.

U.S. authorities, including the Department of State and prosecutors from the Southern District of New York, have previously identified Rocha Moya and nine other officials as being involved in a conspiracy related to drug and weapons trafficking with the Sinaloa Cartel. Maltz argued that corrupt politicians provide critical services to criminal organizations and that high-level operations are necessary to ensure such officials face justice.
