Rubén Rocha Moya requests second indefinite leave of absence as Sinaloa Governor FAST-MOVING

Sinaloa Governor Rubén Rocha Moya has requested a second temporary leave of absence from his post, following a brief return to office after a 112-day absence. The new request is for an indefinite period of more than thirty days, citing Article 58 of the Sinaloa Constitution. This move follows significant political controversy and allegations from the United States government regarding potential ties between Rocha Moya and the Sinaloa Cartel.

President Claudia Sheinbaum commented that the decision is ‘lo mejor para Sinaloa’ (the best thing for Sinaloa) and characterized it as a personal decision by the governor. Sheinbaum noted that she has not been in communication with Rocha Moya since his initial leave of absence and stated that the situation does not impact the Morena political movement.

Upon his brief return on August 21, Rocha Moya was met by a collective of searching mothers who delivered a folder of missing persons' files and demanded action regarding seven unopened mass graves in Navolato. Under state law, because the requested absence exceeds 30 days, the Sinaloa Congress must appoint an interim governor to manage the executive branch.
