Ruby Schleicher to leave Collingwood AFLW captaincy

Collingwood AFLW captain Ruby Schleicher has announced she will depart the club at the end of the current season. The 28-year-old, a two-time All-Australian and the club’s 2024 best and fairest winner, intends to return to her home state of Western Australia.

Schleicher is expected to sign a long-term contract with the West Coast Eagles. Her departure comes during a difficult period for the Collingwood women’s program, which currently holds a 1-9 record for the season.

The move adds to leadership uncertainty at Collingwood, as several senior players, including Tarni White, Sarah Rowe, and Lauren Butler, remain uncontracted for the following year. Schleicher, who has played 82 games for the Magpies since joining in 2016, stated that the decision was made to best suit her life and career.
