Rucandial residents form association to oppose Bosques de Santander project

Residents of Rucandial have formed the Association of Residents Affected by the PSIR Bosques de Santander to protest a large-scale development project. Approximately 200 people attended the inaugural meeting at the San Román Field Cooperative headquarters.

The project, proposed by the Grupo Empresarial Real de Piasca, is a Singular Project of Regional Interest (PSIR) that involves the construction of over 7,000 homes—including both market-rate and social housing—alongside a City of Justice, roads, and green spaces.

Association spokesperson Andrea Oria criticized local institutions for a lack of transparency regarding the macro-project. Residents expressed concerns that the actual scope of land and housing affected is larger than the 37 homes initially reported by the regional government. Additionally, the association raised questions regarding the relocation plans, noting that the proposed resettlement sites may involve land not currently owned by the developer.
