Rucu Pichincha: Dog and puppies rescued from mountain summit

A dog and three potential puppies were rescued from the summit of Rucu Pichincha in Quito, Ecuador, at an altitude of more than 4,690 meters above sea level. The rescue operation was initiated after citizens reported the animals in the difficult-to-access area.

Two officials from the Secretariat of Security located the dog, which was approximately one and a half years old and suffering from dehydration, malnutrition, and exhaustion. Due to difficult terrain and rain, officials carried the dog on their shoulders for approximately five kilometers to a point where it could be transported via the Quito Teleférico gondolas.

The animals were taken to the CAVRAT Quito Sur veterinary center for assessment. Once stabilized, the dog and the three possible puppies were handed over to civil society organizations for recovery and eventual adoption.
