Rudi Völler defends Julian Nagelsmann in debate with Felix Magath

During a charity dinner for the Franz Beckenbauer Foundation in Hamburg, German football officials Rudi Völler and Felix Magath engaged in a heated debate regarding former national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Völler defended Nagelsmann, stating that the coach has been “unfairly treated” and subjected to excessive criticism from experts. While acknowledging that Nagelsmann made mistakes, Völler expressed confidence that he will return to coaching a top club.

In contrast, Magath argued that Nagelsmann was “overwhelmed” and lost his tactical overview. The discussion also touched upon Germany's performance in Euro 2024; Magath labeled the tournament a flop, while Völler defended the team's performance, noting the difficulty of their quarter-final match against Spain.

The event, hosted by Heidi Beckenbauer, successfully raised 49,000 euros for the foundation.
