Rudnik mrkog uglja Kakanj reconstructs key railway infrastructure

Rudnik mrkog uglja Kakanj has completed the reconstruction of six aging railway switches at the entrance to the Separacija industrial station. The project was carried out in collaboration with OZ ‘PRUGA’ Sarajevo during July.

The switches had not been updated since the station was built in 1951. Their deterioration previously caused maintenance difficulties, limited transport speeds, and led to unplanned operational delays. Because coal transport from the Vrtlište plant to the Separacija unit relies entirely on the railway, the infrastructure's reliability is critical to the production process.

The reconstruction aims to ensure safer and faster movement of train compositions while reducing the risk of derailment. According to technical manager Alen Bešić and Director Iso Delibašić, the investment is part of a broader strategy to optimize costs, prevent downtime, and ensure the continuity of coal delivery to the Kakanj Thermal Power Plant.
