Rudozem–Xanthi border crossing officially opened

A high-level meeting marks the official opening of the Rudozem–Xanthi border crossing point, a significant development for European territorial cooperation. The event involves representatives from the European Commission, Bulgarian and Greek state and local authorities, and the Interreg Greece–Bulgaria program.

The opening follows the completion of the CrossBo 1 and CrossBo 2 projects, which focused on constructing the border crossing, roads, and supporting infrastructure. These projects were part of the Interreg V-A Greece-Bulgaria 2014-2020 program and aim to strengthen transport links within the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T).

Key attendees include Maria Nezerti, head of the Interreg Greece–Bulgaria 2021-2027 Managing Authority; Smolyan Regional Governor Georgi Pepelanov; and Christodoulos Topsidis, Governor of the Greek region of East Macedonia and Thrace. The initiative is expected to improve connectivity, mobility, and regional development in the Bulgarian-Greek cross-border area.
