Rufus Omeire endorses Ikenga Ugochinyere for 2027 term
Former lawmaker Rufus Omeire has endorsed incumbent representative Ikenga Ugochinyere for a second term in the 2027 general elections, rejecting arguments for a rotational zoning arrangement in the Ideato Federal Constituency.
Omeire, who is the senatorial candidate for the Action Peoples Party (APP), argued that Ugochinyere’s position is a result of democratic choice rather than a predetermined political quota. He stated that Ugochinyere emerged through the will of the voters and cautioned that attempting to create a crisis over zoning could backfire.
Supporting the incumbent, Omeire highlighted Ugochinyere’s legislative performance and constituency projects, such as the Ideato Bridge, noting that the lawmaker successfully lobbied President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for funding. Omeire contended that replacing an active representative with a newcomer based on regional rotation would hinder meaningful development.
