Rugby developments in Fiji and Solomon Islands
Fiji Under-19 men’s head coach Marika Rodu has expressed confidence in the final squad selected for the upcoming OFC U-19 Men’s Championship in Samoa. The selection followed an extensive talent identification process involving trials across Fiji and New Zealand, with consideration given to players based in Australia, Canada, Dubai, and the United States.
Rodu emphasized that the squad was chosen based on technical ability, competitive drive, and a genuine desire to represent the nation. He noted that there would be no distinction made between locally based and overseas-based players, stating, “I see them as all Fijians and all of them have the eligibility to represent Fiji.”
In the Solomon Islands, the Solomon Islands Rugby Union Federation (SIRUF) has opened registration for its Annual National 7s and High School U18 7s tournaments. Scheduled for September 16 to 18 at the Town Ground Rugby Stadium, these competitions serve as selection pathways for regional opportunities, including the Oceania Rugby 7s tournament and the Nadi Junior Rugby Festival in Fiji.
