Rugby player Kyle Tayler-Woolston shares coming-out story

Welsh rugby player Kyle Tayler-Woolston is sharing his experience of coming out to his teammates to provide positive representation for LGBTQ+ athletes. A back-row forward for Newport RFC, Tayler-Woolston came out to his club in 2018 and described the mental exhaustion of previously fearing judgment based on his sexuality rather than his athletic skill.

Tayler-Woolston noted that his primary anxieties involved potential isolation, rejection, or being overlooked for team selection. He expressed a desire to provide role models for younger players who may not have had similar figures to look up to. He recently married his husband, George Woolston, and is preparing for the upcoming Super Rygbi Cymru season with Newport.
