Ruggi d’Aragona Hospital resolves blood shortage emergency

The blood shortage emergency at the San Giovanni di Dio and Ruggi d’Aragona University Hospital in Salerno has been resolved. Director General Nicola Cantone announced that hospital activities have returned to normal following extraordinary blood drives that addressed a critical shortage of blood bags.

The crisis was driven by the closure of the Battipaglia hospital and an unusual number of accidents during the summer period, which significantly increased transfusion demands. While the emergency has subsided, Cantone emphasized the need for continued blood donations to ensure medical security. There is currently uncertainty regarding a planned blood drive by the Municipality of Salerno, as the hospital is reportedly awaiting formal requests and necessary authorizations.
