Ruhr-Sieg railway line disrupted after 330-ton bridge slips

A 330-ton steel railway bridge slipped during installation near Kirchhundem on the Ruhr-Sieg line, causing significant disruptions to rail traffic. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Deutsche Bahn has announced that the previous construction schedule for the general renovation of the line between Hagen and Siegen can no longer be maintained. The section between Letmathe and Welschen Ennest will remain closed until at least September 27, with replacement buses operating in the interim. The Regional Express 34 service between Dortmund and Siegen is completely cancelled during this period.

To assess the extent of the damage, the massive structure must be lifted and re-measured, a process experts estimate will take approximately two weeks. The cause of the accident is currently unknown and is being investigated in cooperation with the involved construction companies.
