Ruhrgebiet commercial real estate sees rise in new construction
The Ruhr region in Germany is seeing growth impulses in the commercial real estate sector. According to the Ruhr Real Estate Market Report presented in Gelsenkirchen, new construction across all commercial asset classes increased in the first half of the year compared to the previous year.
Specific growth was noted in the office segment with a 2.7 percent increase and in logistics with a 0.7 percent increase. The light industrial asset class, which combines production, storage, and office space, saw a significant surge in new construction of 576 percent, reaching 113,200 square meters.
Jörg Kemna, Managing Director of Business Metropole Ruhr GmbH, stated that while investment willpower had recently been lacking across Germany, the region is now banking on economic recovery. He noted that demand is driven by high-quality, flexible commercial properties and specialized sectors such as life sciences.
