Ruisan Coal Mine cleaning plant phase two officially opens in Houlong
The second phase of the Ruisan Coal Mine cleaning plant project in Houlong has officially been completed and opened to the public. New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi attended the opening ceremony to inspect the restored historical facilities.
The project focuses on reconnecting dispersed industrial landscapes to recreate the historical coal processing workflow. Key features include a life-sized wooden replica of a coal car tippler, restored coal transport ramps with new tracks, and the introduction of a 35H1000 model coal hopper car in collaboration with the Taiwan Railway Corporation. These elements allow visitors to experience the actual movement of coal from the mines to the cleaning plant.
The site will be integrated with the existing Houlong Coal Mine Museum to create a continuous industrial landscape experience. To improve accessibility, the park has added barrier-free ramps and optimized visitor routes. Special opening events and guided tours led by local historical associations are scheduled to coincide with the National Day holiday period.
