Ruislip Lido fish die due to low oxygen levels

Dead fish have washed up on the shores of Ruislip Lido, a popular West London beauty spot. Local councillor Philip Corthorne confirmed that the fish mortalities were caused by low oxygen levels in the water.

The Environment Agency (EA) reported that oxygen levels dropped to 20%, a condition likely triggered by an algal bloom and prolonged summer heatwaves. Warmer water holds less dissolved oxygen, which can lead to such ecological issues.

To mitigate the impact, the EA is providing three aerators to help re-oxygenate parts of the lake where fish are concentrated. The lake has been closed to fishing to preserve remaining stocks while the water stabilizes, a process expected to take several days.
