Ruiz Foods announces layoffs at Dinuba, California facility

Ruiz Foods, a major manufacturer of frozen Mexican food brands such as El Monterey and Tornados, has announced it is laying off 176 employees at its facility in Dinuba, California. The reduction represents approximately 12.5% of the plant's workforce.

According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) Act filing, the layoffs will primarily take effect on November 4, when the facility transitions to a five-day production schedule. President and CEO Kimberli Carroll stated the decision was necessary to “better align production capacity with anticipated customer demand.”

Eligible employees will receive separation packages and may apply for open positions at other Ruiz Foods facilities. Some staff may also be eligible for an early retirement incentive plan. This follows the company's previous closure of a Tulare processing plant in 2024 and its relocation of corporate headquarters from California to Frisco, Texas.
