Rujevica Stadium away fan facilities draw British media scrutiny
Ahead of the Nations League match between Croatia and England in Rijeka, British media have highlighted the controversial conditions of the away fan section at Rujevica Stadium. The sector, often described as a ‘notorious cage’ due to its metal mesh fencing, has faced long-standing criticism from visiting clubs, including Scotland's Aberdeen.
For this fixture, approximately 100 English fans with free tickets will be accommodated in an open section of the West Stand near the pitch, rather than the fenced north stand. While UEFA sanctions regarding Croatian fan conduct initially suggested the match might be played behind closed doors, approximately 6,000 schoolchildren will be permitted to attend, alongside a small number of dedicated English supporters secured by the FA.
On the pitch, media attention is focused on Slaven Bilić’s return to the Croatian national team and his tactical ambitions to implement a more aggressive, high-pressing style. Key players such as Luka Modrić, Mateo Kovačić, and Ivan Perišić remain central to the squad. For England, discussions center on goalkeeper competition involving Jordan Pickford and the offensive expectations placed on Harry Kane.
