Bulgaria and Slovakia seek diplomatic solution for Ukraine and nuclear energy cooperation

Bulgarian and Slovakian leaders, including President Iliana Yotova and Prime Minister Rumen Radev, met with Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico to discuss bilateral cooperation and the conflict in Ukraine. Both nations emphasized that the war in Ukraine has no military solution and must be resolved through diplomacy and negotiations.

On the economic front, the leaders discussed the European Union's long-term budget, specifically advocating for cohesion and agricultural policies. They expressed concerns regarding the competitiveness of certain member states if financial frameworks are rushed.

A major focus of the meeting was energy security. Bulgaria and Slovakia are collaborating on nuclear energy projects, including ongoing negotiations with Westinghouse Electric Company for the installation of AP1000 reactors. The two countries agreed to establish a joint commission to share scientific expertise and experience in the nuclear sector to support climate neutrality goals.
