Rumen Radev Blamed by Opposition Leader Kostadin Kostadinov for Deputies’ ‘Beach’ Attacks
Opposition leader Kostadin Kostadinov of the "Vazrazhdane" party accused President Rumen Radev of being attacked by his own deputies, claiming they were on long summer vacations on beaches such as the Seychelles and the Maldives while the government received a tranche from the EU Recovery and Resilience Plan. Kostadinov criticised Radev for not promptly addressing the case of 23‑year‑old Bulgarian Iva Mihaylova, whose treatment is being blocked by Macedonian authorities, putting her at risk of permanent disability. A special parliamentary commission on policies for Bulgarians abroad was convened by MP Angel Georgiev, but deputies from Progressive Bulgaria, GERB and DPS were absent, causing the meeting to fail. During the session, Iva’s mother, Hristina Mihaylova, presented alleged irregularities in the handling of the case. Radev also highlighted Bulgaria’s recent acquisition of the Institute for the History of Bulgarian Emigration in North America.
