Rumen Radev claims to be dismantling Bulgarian oligarchy amid opposition criticism

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has stated that his administration is actively fulfilling pre-election promises by eliminating the influence of the oligarchy from political power and restricting their access to public resources. Speaking in Pleven, Radev characterized previous governing programs, including those of the Assembly and former administrations under Denkov and Zhelyazkov, as examples of “ideological and managerial impotence.” He emphasized that the government is working with allies to identify proxy figures and assets held abroad to dismantle the hierarchical structure of the oligarchy.

In response, the political party “We Continue the Change” (PP) has challenged these claims. The party issued a statement alleging that during his first 100 days, Radev has actually filled positions of power with individuals linked to old political models. PP cited several appointments in the healthcare, energy, agriculture, and transport sectors, arguing that the individuals selected were previously associated with rival political groups or specific interest groups, thereby contradicting the Prime Minister's anti-oligarchy stance.
