Rumen Radev faces criticism over Plovdiv murder comments

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev has faced criticism following his comments regarding the brutal murder of Georgi Kusev in Plovdiv. Radev attributed the actions of the perpetrators, who utilized fascist symbols, to the opposition, calling them ‘creatures’ of political opponents.

PR expert Natalia Dimitrova criticized the Prime Minister, stating that he selectively uses facts to serve political purposes and makes parallels for political gain. She noted that while Radev presented a governance program focused on security and internal order, he failed to provide specific measures, such as increased training for Ministry of Interior personnel or enhanced cybersecurity efforts to detect neo-Nazi influences.

In contrast, Alexander Sidi, organizational secretary of VMRO, defended Radev’s statements as correct. Sidi criticized the current administration, comparing them to ‘charlatans’ and referencing historical tensions regarding the Monument to the Soviet Army. He advocated for stricter measures, including the removal of NGOs from schools and restrictions on social media use for children under 16.
