Rumen Radev proposes ‘industrial cohesion’ concept to Antonio Costa

Bulgarian Prime Minister Rumen Radev met with European Council President Antonio Costa in Sofia to discuss several critical European challenges, including security, technological sovereignty, and the rapid integration of artificial intelligence into economic and social life.

During the meeting, Radev proposed a new concept termed ‘industrial cohesion.’ This initiative aims to ensure that all EU member states have equal access to the tools driving technological and industrial development, preventing less developed economies from falling behind. He emphasized that cohesion should expand beyond traditional social programs and infrastructure to include equitable participation in Europe’s technological advancement.

The leaders also addressed the EU’s multiannual financial framework, noting the tension between high ambitions and limited resources. Discussions covered European defense, energy and digital connectivity, and the strategic role of Bulgaria in future transport and energy corridors. Regarding EU enlargement, Costa affirmed that Ukraine, Moldova, and the Western Balkans belong to the EU, stating that accession should be based on merit and equality.
