Rumesh Pathirage wins Zurich Diamond League javelin title

Sri Lankan javelin thrower Rumesh Pathirage won the men’s javelin event at the Zurich Diamond League with a throw of 92.07 metres. This mark, achieved on his sixth and final attempt, represents the second time in his career that he has surpassed the 92-metre threshold, placing him among only four athletes in history to achieve this feat twice.

Pathirage’s victory marks his fourth Diamond League win of the season, following previous successes in Doha, Rome, and Lausanne. He finishes the qualifying series at the top of the standings with 39 points and will advance to the season-ending Diamond League Final in Brussels as the leading qualifier.

In the competition, Grenada’s Anderson Peters secured second place with a throw of 86.93 metres, while Poland’s Dawid Wegner finished third with 85.16 metres. While Pathirage dominated the field in Zurich, Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra opted to skip the event but has successfully qualified for the final based on his previous performances.
