Running developments in Peru: Record set at Andes Race and community growth in Lima

In Peru, the running scene is experiencing growth through both competitive trail racing and the rise of inclusive community groups. At the tenth edition of the adidas Andes Race in Cusco, ultramarathoner Remigio Huamán secured his second consecutive victory in the 100K category. Huamán set a new record with a time of 13h37m19s, improving his previous mark by more than 30 minutes. The race, which took place in the Sacred Valley, featured over 1,100 participants across distances of 13K, 30K, 60K, and 100K, with routes reaching altitudes of 4,700 meters.

Simultaneously, running communities like Braves Running are expanding in Lima. Founded by head coach Bayron Calderón, the group has grown from four members to over 230 participants. The community emphasizes inclusivity for women and the LGBT community while utilizing the Training Peaks platform to provide data-driven, personalized training for its members. The group currently operates in districts such as Miraflores, Barranco, and San Borja, with plans to expand its reach.
