Ruoheng Li creates artwork for Aguascalientes bullring season

Chinese artist Ruoheng Li has created the official artwork, ‘La Monumental enciende la noche’, for the Autumn 2026 season at the Plaza de Toros Monumental in Aguascalientes. Presented by Espectáculos Monterrey (EMSA), the piece offers a multicultural perspective on bullfighting, blending Eastern and Western influences.

Li, who has lived in 22 countries and studied at the Royal College of Art and ArtCenter College of Design, drew inspiration from the architecture of the Monumental bullring and the local cultural identity of Aguascalientes. Her work incorporates elements of the graphic tradition of José Guadalupe Posada, specifically exploring the Mexican cultural relationship between life and death.

Li described her work as a depiction of the bullring illuminated at night, viewing bullfighting as a material support that responds to the history of cultural migration in the region and translates an optimistic view of life.
