Indian Rupee faces volatility amid US Fed policy uncertainty
The Indian Rupee has experienced volatility against the US Dollar, fluctuating near the 95.40 to 95.60 range. While the currency saw marginal gains in some sessions due to sliding global crude oil prices and inflows from the Reserve Bank of India’s FCNR(B) scheme, it faced pressure from foreign institutional investor (FII) outflows and month-end dollar demand from importers.
Market participants are closely monitoring the upcoming speech by Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh at the Jackson Hole Symposium. Investors are seeking clarity on the future direction of US interest rates, especially following US inflation data that has reinforced expectations regarding the Federal Reserve's monetary policy path.
Additionally, analysts warn that a combination of elevated crude oil prices and a weakening rupee could intensify inflationary pressures in India, particularly if geopolitical conflicts in West Asia lead to prolonged disruptions in global oil supplies.
