Rupi Soren, mother of Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, dies at 80

Rupi Soren, the mother of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren and wife of the late Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) founder Shibu Soren, passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80 following a prolonged illness.

After receiving medical treatment in Hyderabad, her health deteriorated upon returning home, leading to her admission to a private hospital in Ranchi. Rupi Soren had previously been noted for her significant role in the political and personal life of her late husband, who passed away in August 2025.

Political leaders, including Lok Sabha Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi, KT Rama Rao, and former Chief Minister Raghubar Das, have expressed their condolences to the Soren family. The mortal remains were brought to the Chief Minister’s residence in Morabadi for final respects.
