Rural development and social initiatives emerge in Spain

New initiatives are emerging in rural Spain to address social and environmental challenges. In Villablino, the association ‘Las que faltaban’ will be officially presented on September 18. The group aims to increase the visibility of women in rural areas, foster mutual support, and create spaces for cultural development and civic participation.

Meanwhile, in Sigüenza, the Plataforma para la Defensa del Valle y Hoces del Mesa is hosting a public debate regarding the future of the Sierra Norte de Guadalajara, the Señorío de Molina, and the Alto Tajo. The discussion focuses on sustainable development models that balance economic growth with the preservation of biodiversity, landscape, and natural resources. A key point of contention is a project by the multinational Aviagen involving five large poultry farms in Maranchón. The platform is advocating for a global environmental impact assessment of these facilities rather than evaluating them individually, citing concerns over cumulative effects on water and the local ecosystem.
