Rural schools in Spain implement new teacher training and equality initiatives

Rural schools in Spain are becoming focal points for educational innovation and social equality. Under the ‘Generación docentes’ program, promoted by the Fundación Princesa de Girona, several rural schools in Andalusia, including El Colegio Valle de Andarax, are opening their classrooms to future teachers from other regions such as Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, and the Valencian Community.

These student teachers will undergo four months of practical training between November 2026 and June 2027, gaining firsthand experience in rural socio-educational realities. The program includes training in leadership, emotional well-being, and educational technology to foster an exchange of knowledge between different territories.

In Castilla-La Mancha, regional authorities have emphasized that rural schools are essential for guaranteeing equal opportunities and the future of small towns. During the 22nd Lifelong Learning Festival in Herencia, officials argued that the quality of education should not be determined by a person's place of residence, highlighting the personalized attention and environmental integration inherent in rural teaching models.
