Rural Scotland residents protest wind farm and energy infrastructure plans

Residents and critics in rural Scotland are expressing strong opposition to proposed energy developments and government compensation schemes. Regarding the Pollie Hill Wind Farm, developers Coriolis Energy have faced criticism for a consultation map that local residents claim omits several inhabited areas, including Strath Brora, Little Rogart, and Tannachy, effectively ‘wiping’ them off the map.

Additionally, the UK Government’s proposal to offer households £250 annual discounts on electricity bills for ten years in exchange for hosting new transmission infrastructure has been met with backlash. Opponents argue the compensation is insufficient to offset the perceived industrialization of the landscape, potential impacts on property values, and the disruption caused by large-scale pylons and substations intended to support onshore wind development.
