Rurix consolidates as shared digital infrastructure for rural Spain
Asteo Red Neutra and Rede Aberta have consolidated Rurix as a shared digital infrastructure platform to enhance strategic and commercial synergies in rural Spain. Originally established as a commercial alliance in 2024 to provide neutral fiber optic networks for smaller operators, Rurix is evolving into a unified infrastructure entity.
Both Asteo and Rede Aberta will continue to operate under their existing brands, maintaining their current operations, contracts, and market positioning. The initiative is backed by the Connecting Europe Broadband Fund (CEBF), managed by Cube Infrastructure Managers, which invested in Rede Aberta in 2020 and Asteo Red Neutra in 2021.
In this new phase, Pedro Abad has been appointed CEO and Pere Antentas as CTO. Both will maintain their respective roles as CEOs of Asteo and Rede Aberta. Ana Rial has been named CFO. The combined network capabilities include over 6,500 kilometers of high-capacity long-haul transport networks, providing coverage to approximately 800,000 homes across more than 2,300 rural areas in Spain.
