Rurubu Kitchen to serve certified domestic venison in September

JTB Publishing will offer a limited-time lunch menu featuring certified domestic gibier at its restaurant, editor’s fav Rurubu Kitchen, in Shinjuku, Tokyo. From September 1 to September 28, 2026, the establishment will serve a “Japanese deer meat roast with mushroom garlic rice” priced at 1,780 yen (including tax).

The menu utilizes venison processed at facilities holding the “Domestic Gibier Certification,” ensuring high hygiene standards. The initiative is part of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries’ “FY2026 Project to Promote the Utilization of Wild Birds and Mammals,” which aims to expand the consumption of safe and secure gibier.

This effort addresses the social issue of increasing damage to crops caused by overpopulated wild animals by repurposing them as sustainable food sources. The deer meat is sourced directly from certified facilities and prepared using specialized pre-treatment to ensure tenderness before being roasted in a pan and oven.
