Ruse–Biala motorway project set for completion by late 2028

Bulgarian Regional Minister Ivan Shishkov has announced that the Ruse–Biala section of the future Ruse–Veliko Tarnovo motorway, including the Biala bypass, is scheduled for completion by the end of 2028. The project, which covers approximately 70 kilometers, is being co-financed by the European Union with a total value of 525 million euros.

During an inspection near Peychinovo, Shishkov noted that construction is progressing despite technical challenges posed by loess soils and land expropriation procedures. The project includes complex engineering structures, such as viaducts reaching heights of up to 85 meters.

Plans are also underway to accelerate the next phase of the strategic route. A detailed spatial plan for the section from Biala to Veliko Tarnovo is expected to be commissioned within 30 to 40 days. The long-term goal of the ministry is to complete the entire motorway connection from Ruse to the Makaza border crossing. For the segments beyond Veliko Tarnovo, the government intends to seek a concessionaire.
