Ruse bolsters emergency 112 hub and pushes industrial growth

Municipal officials in Ruse met with senior representatives of Bulgaria’s National 112 Emergency Call System to review the city’s role as a strategic backup centre. The Ruse Regional Center 112, housed in a municipal building, can assume nationwide call processing if the Sofia centre fails and also serves as a reserve data, software and hardware hub. The meeting highlighted the centre’s modern video‑surveillance network of about 1,700 cameras and discussed expanding cooperation with Romanian emergency services.

In a separate session, Mayor Pencho Milkov and Vice‑Prime Minister and Minister of Economy Alexandar Pulev examined ways to attract investment and upgrade Ruse’s industrial base. Milkov stressed the city’s unique transport links—river, road, rail and air—and called for legislative changes to grant traditional industrial zones status similar to industrial parks, enabling access to state and EU funding. The discussion also focused on improving Danube port infrastructure and easing the hiring of Romanian workers to strengthen Ruse’s position as a logistics gateway to Central Europe.
