Ruse hosts fifth annual Garash Cake Festival

The fifth annual Garash Cake Festival has commenced in Ruse, Bulgaria. For the first time, the event is being held over two days, on September 19 and 20.

Mayor Pencho Milkov officially opened the festivities, noting that the Garash cake was created in Ruse over a century ago. The festival aims to preserve this local culinary tradition while introducing modern interpretations. The event features a competition with a record 148 amateur pastry chefs from across the country participating in three categories: traditional Garash cake, modern interpretations, and homemade recipes from old notebooks.

A professional jury will evaluate the entries, with special awards planned for categories such as ‘Most Attractive Cake’, ‘Public Choice’, and ‘Most Delicious Cake’. The celebration includes various cultural activities and photo zones throughout the city center.
