Russell Brand to headline New York conference amid UK rape charges
Russell Brand is scheduled to headline the Shelter Island Conference at the Ram's Head Inn in New York as part of the United We Stand tour. Organized by the Free & Equal Elections Foundation, the event features Brand as an “author, broadcaster & independent voice” to discuss topics including capital, sovereignty, and self-governance.
Brand's appearance comes amid ongoing legal proceedings in the United Kingdom. He faces seven criminal charges related to alleged sexual offenses involving six women between 1999 and 2009. These charges include multiple counts of rape, sexual assault, and indecent assault. Brand has pleaded not guilty to all charges, maintaining that he has never engaged in non-consensual activity.
Christina Tobin, founder of Free & Equal, defended Brand's inclusion in the lineup, stating he is “innocent until proven guilty.” The conference is set to take place from August 26 to 28 and will include other speakers such as Ron Paul and Joe Kent.
