Actor Russell Crowe has expressed renewed interest in reprising his role as Father Gabriele Amorth in a potential sequel to the 2023 horror film ‘The Pope’s Exorcist’. Crowe noted that while he previously avoided sequels due to a perception that they often lacked the quality and focus of the original films, his perspective has shifted as many modern sequels have achieved critical or iconic status.

Crowe highlighted the depth of the character, noting that the real-life Gabriele Amorth wrote 12 books about his experiences, suggesting there is significant material available to explore. Although interest in a follow-up exists, the project's timeline remains uncertain. Previous reports indicated that while two films were originally in development, leadership changes at Sony Pictures have contributed to delays in the franchise's progression.
