Russell T Davies addresses online radicalization and LGBTQ rights

Renowned British television creator Russell T Davies is addressing the rise of online hatred and misinformation targeting the LGBTQ community. In his new series, ‘Tip Toe’, which recently began streaming on Starz in the US, Davies explores how political rhetoric and social media radicalization can lead to real-world violence.

The series, set in Manchester, follows a queer bar owner played by Alan Cumming as he faces increasing aggression from a neighbor, played by David Morrissey, who has been radicalized by online conspiracy theories.

Davies has personally experienced the consequences of online smears, noting that he has faced death threats and has had individuals arrive at his home following false accusations. He expressed concern regarding how algorithms monetize hatred and noted that the perceived progress in queer rights feels increasingly fragile.
