Russell Westbrook Linked to Washington Wizards and Sacramento Kings in Free Agency Talks

Former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook is being discussed as a potential free‑agency destination for both the Washington Wizards and the Sacramento Kings. A FanSided article notes that the Wizards, who still have point‑guard Trae Young under long‑term contract, could use Westbrook’s experience to add depth and provide a backup or starter if Young’s health falters. Westbrook previously played for Washington in the 2020‑21 season, averaging over 20 points per game at that time.

The Kings, who signed Westbrook to a veteran minimum for the 2025‑26 season, are also reconsidering a reunion. Sources say the team wants a veteran guard to mentor rookie point guard Darius Acuff Jr. and is weighing Westbrook or Victor Oladipo for the role. Westbrook finished last season with the Kings averaging 15.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.4 rebounds while starting 58 of 64 games. The Kings are slightly under the salary‑cap apron and could stretch DeMar DeRozan’s guarantee to free up space for two veteran minimum contracts.
