Russell Wilson's Club Reign wins debut race at Saratoga

Former NFL quarterback Russell Wilson and his wife, singer Ciara, secured a victory in their debut as horse owners at Saratoga Race Course. Their two-year-old colt, Club Reign, won a six-furlong maiden special weight race on August 29, the Travers Stakes day card, by six lengths.

Club Reign, representing Wilson’s new venture Three Brand Racing, was ridden by jockey Edgard Zayas and trained by Whit Beckman. The colt, which was purchased for $475,000, finished the race with a time of 1:11.27. Following the win, trainer Beckman suggested the colt could potentially compete in the Grade 1 Champagne Stakes on October 3 at Belmont Park, a race that serves as a qualifier for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile and offers Kentucky Derby qualifying points.
