Russell's Travel Center Museum closes on Route 66

The Russell's Travel Center Museum, a roadside attraction on Route 66 in Glenrio, New Mexico, has officially closed. The museum, which featured classic cars, motorcycles, vintage gas station signs, and fuel pumps, was emptied in July 2026.

The closure follows the 2023 acquisition of the truck stop by TravelCenters of America (TA). While the Russell's Travel Center name was permitted to remain for three years following the sale, the facility has now been fully rebranded as TA.

Despite being a free attraction, the museum's donation box raised $520,000 over 15 years for food banks in Amarillo and Tucumcari. Assiter Auctioneers is currently conducting an online auction of 432 lots from the museum's collection, including vehicles and vintage items, with the auction set to conclude on October 10, 2026.
