Russia accelerates deployment of Rassvet satellite system

Russia is accelerating the deployment of its Rassvet satellite system, which is intended to serve as a domestic alternative to Starlink. According to Major General Vadym Skibitsky of Ukrainian intelligence, the deployment is progressing faster than previously anticipated.

Currently, the system operates fragmentarily, providing coverage only when specific satellites pass over Ukrainian territory. Russia presently has 16 Rassvet satellites in orbit, with plans to expand the constellation to 292 satellites by 2027 and up to 924 by 2035. Once a full constellation is established, the network is expected to function similarly to Starlink, potentially improving communication quality for Russian Armed Forces in combat zones.

Ukrainian officials are reportedly discussing methods to counter this technology. Serhiy Beskrestnov, an adviser to President Volodymyr Zelensky, has noted that the system could create significant operational difficulties for Ukraine.
