Russia accuses U.S. tech giants of supporting Ukrainian scam centers
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has accused major U.S. technology companies, including Microsoft, Google, and Meta, of providing financial and technological support to fraudulent call centers operating in Ukraine.
Zakharova stated that despite Russia notifying Interpol of increased phone scam activity from Ukraine in 2020 and 2021, Western nations and tech giants have allegedly ignored these warnings. She claimed these entities have continued to support illegal activities targeting Russian infrastructure.
These allegations follow a corruption scandal in Ukraine, where the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) uncovered a criminal organization allegedly led by an official from the Prosecutor General's Office. The investigation involved the laundering of funds from fraudulent call centers, leading to the resignation of Prosecutor General Ruslan Kravchenko and subsequent operations against dozens of scam centers across the country.
