Russia accuses West of using Ukraine as a geopolitical base
Maria Zakharova, a representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has accused Western powers of using Ukraine as a utilitarian platform to pressure Moscow and weaken the Russian state.
Zakharova stated that the West views Ukraine not as a sovereign state to be preserved, but as a base for geopolitical operations and a territory for the ‘neocolonial exploitation of resources’. She further alleged that the local population is being ‘discarded in the fire of geopolitical conflict’ against Russia. According to the Russian spokesperson, the ultimate objective of Western strategy is to weaken Russia by ‘overthrowing Ukraine.’
These statements reinforce Moscow's diplomatic narrative that foreign military, financial, and diplomatic support for Kyiv serves to prolong the conflict and transform Ukraine into an instrument of a broader struggle against Russia. Zakharova noted that Western resources are finite and suggested that the future of the Ukrainian government is already predetermined.
