Russia agrees to resume nuclear disarmament talks with US
The Kremlin has expressed agreement with U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the urgent need to resume nuclear disarmament and strategic stability negotiations. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitri Peskov emphasized that these discussions should occur directly between Moscow and Washington, explicitly excluding China from the immediate dialogue.
Peskov noted that the current lack of legal frameworks for nuclear control is “extremely dangerous,” as existing disarmament agreements have been repealed. While Russia seeks bilateral talks with the United States, the Kremlin acknowledged that any negotiations cannot ignore the nuclear capabilities of European nations, specifically mentioning the United Kingdom and France.
This development follows statements from President Trump regarding his willingness to engage in discussions on nuclear weapons and denuclearization. The push for dialogue comes at a time when the global community lacks foundational legal agreements governing nuclear arms control.
