Russia agrees to resume trilateral peace talks with US and Ukraine

Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed principled agreement to resume trilateral peace negotiations involving Russia, the United States, and Ukraine, potentially starting after November 10. The discussions, which could take place in Abu Dhabi, UAE, are expected to focus on establishing a security framework for Russia and Ukraine following the conclusion of the conflict.

This development follows a meeting in Saint Petersburg between President Putin and US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff. While US officials noted “meaningful progress” during recent discussions in Oslo with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Russia has dismissed previous European-led peace proposals as lacking practical value. Russia reportedly maintains its existing demands, including the transfer of the Donbas region and Ukraine’s renunciation of NATO membership.

In conjunction with these diplomatic efforts, Russia has released Stephen Hubbard, an American citizen detained on suspicion of serving as a mercenary in Ukraine. President Donald Trump stated that the release occurred without the US providing any concessions, describing it as an “unprecedented situation” for Russia. President Zelensky has expressed support for the rapid resumption of negotiations and has called for a summit involving heads of state to ensure Ukraine is not excluded from discussions regarding its own future.
