Russia allocates 18 billion rubles to longevity and biotechnology research

The Russian government has allocated approximately 17.954 billion rubles (nearly 200 million euros) for the “New Health Technologies” national project between 2027 and 2029. The program focuses on longevity, biotechnology, and advanced medical research.

Key research areas include gene therapies to slow cellular aging, the development of biomedical technologies, and organ regeneration. One specific initiative involves using genetically modified mini-pigs to grow human organs for transplantation, with the first animal expected by 2030. Additionally, researchers are working on tests to determine biological age and a potential “anti-aging vaccine” targeting the RAGE receptor to combat inflammation.

The program is reportedly overseen by Maria Vorontsova, daughter of President Vladimir Putin, and Mikhail Kovalchuk, head of the Kurchatov Institute. While some reports suggest the funding may be intended to extend the life of the Russian President, official documentation describes it as a broad state program aimed at promoting healthy and active longevity.
