Russia and ASEAN discuss strategic ties and security in Moscow
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and ASEAN Secretary-General Kao Kim Hourn met in Moscow to discuss strengthening the strategic partnership between Russia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations. The discussions, coinciding with the 35th anniversary of relations between Moscow and ASEAN, focused on regional security, economic ties, and the pursuit of a multipolar world order.
Key areas of cooperation identified include energy security, food security, maritime security, and pandemic preparedness. Both parties expressed concern regarding global market instability caused by geopolitical tensions and supply chain disruptions. To address these challenges, the leaders explored expanding collaboration in sectors such as agriculture, digital development, education, and technology.
As part of the visit, the ASEAN Secretary-General held meetings with various Russian ministries, including those overseeing energy, agriculture, science, and emergency situations, to broaden cooperation beyond traditional diplomacy.
